Corvallis clinches West with 7-3 win over Bend, Knights win 8th straight WCCBL series.

Skipper Brooke Knight (pictured) led Corvallis to a first place finish in the West in his first season as the club's field manager. Knight's Knights are now 30-13 overall and 26-9 in the WCCBL, eight games up on the Elks with 7 games remaining. Corvallis is 5-0 vs. Bend this season.

The Knights will open the post-season on the road Tuesday, August 12 vs. the second place club in the West, most likely Bend or Kitsap.

Game two of the Western Divisional Series is scheduled for Wednesday, August 13 at Goss Stadium. Game three will also be at Goss Stadium. If necessary, game three would be played Thursday, August 14. Both home start times are 6:35 pm.

Junior outfielder Matt Wyckoff of George Fox delivered the big hit on Saturday night at Vince Genna Stadium as the left-handed hitter from Olympia, Washington blasted a monster three-run homer high over the rightfield scoreboard to give Corvallis a 7-2 advantage in the seventh-inning. Wyckoff went 2 for 3.

Michael Cusick of Western Oregon earned the win in relief. Cusick entered the game in the sixth with the bases loaded, two outs and the Knights down 2-1. He struck out the first batter he faced and the Knights rewarded the junior-to be from Salem with 6 runs in the 7th.

Frosh David Stilley of Washington State finished the game tossing 1 2/3 scoreless innings.

The series finale with Bend is Sunday at 5 pm. Liam Baron of Linn-Benton CC is the probable starter. You can listen to the game on 990 AM The Legend. Mike Parker, the voice of the Knights, calls all the action and will be 50 years old on Sunday. Happy Birthday, Mike!

With the clinching of the West, Corvallis has captured back-to-back West crowns. Last summer, the Knights won the West and its Divisional Series vs. Kitsap before losing the WCCBL Championship Series to Moses Lake.
