Knights drop series finale at Yakima Valley, 4-0.

The host Yakima Valley Pippins blanked Corvallis to salvage the final game of the key series between the top two teams in the South Division.

Starter Cameron Bishop (pictured) of UC Irvine struck out nine and did not allow a hit in five innings. However, a wild pitch on a third strike enabled a runner to reach safely, and two ensuing walks led to a bases-loaded sacrifice fly and an unearned run in the second inning.

The Pippins (16-13) had just three hits but they exploited defensive lapses to score an unearned run in the second inning and two more unearned runs in the eighth. The loss ended a six-game winning streak in all games by the Knights (21-9 all, 15-9 WCL).

However, Corvallis won the first two games of the series and clinched the first-half South Division title and a playoff berth on Monday afternoon.

Catcher Andrew Reichenbach (George Fox) had two hits and first baseman Zak Taylor (Oregon State) had a double for the Knights. They stranded two runners at third base and three overall while being shut out for the fourth time this summer, all on the road.

The Knights complete the first half of their WCL schedule by hosting Wenatchee in a 6:40 p.m. single game on Wednesday and a 6:05 p.m. doubleheader on Thursday. Dixie State lefty Aaron Pope (2-2, 3.04) will start on Wednesday; San Francisco righty Grant Goodman (0-0, 1.22) and future Northern Colorado righty Branden Cutsforth (0-0, 4.76) get the ball on Thursday.

Wednesday is KLOO-FM Timeless Rock Night/Mascot Night, presented by Jiffy Lube. Help us celebrate Mack the Knights birthday; GA tickets for seniors are just $2.
