Knights win WCCBL opener at Kitsap 8-1. Jon Berger of San Diego State turns in quality start.

Corvallis banged out 13 hits and scored 4 runs in the first and ninth innings. The Knights first four hitters scored runs in the first and final inning of tonight's WCCBL opener for both West Division clubs. Jon Berger tossed a solid 6 2/3 innings to earn the win. Frosh Chris Brookey of UNC-Asheville pitched 2 1/3 innings of scoreless ball to earn the save.

The Knights defense shined brightly in the opener as Josh Hogan of Mt. Hood CC made two spectacular plays and frosh third baseman Davis Duren of Oklahoma State also made a stellar play.

First baseman Dean Green of Oklahoma State went 3 for 5 with 2 RBI and junior-to be outfielder Logan Lotti of Sierra College tripled.

The Knights sent 9 batters to the plate in both the 1st and 9th innings.

Hogan, Duren, Lotti and Green all scored 2 runs.

In the bottom of the first, the Knights' defense threw out a runner at home as Matt Wyckoff made a perfect through to Duren who cut down BlueJackets' leadoff hitter Doug Buser at the plate on Aaron Johnson's double to left.

Alex Burg, a junior from Washington State, made his Knights' debut as a pinch-hitter in the 9th singling with the bases loaded to score Duren.

Davis Duren posted his second multi-hit game as the frosh from Tulsa went 2 for 4 with a double.

Hogan registered six assists at second base.

Junior right-hander James McLaughlin of San Diego State is the scheduled starter for Corvallis.
