Corvallis scores late to beat Bells 6-1 and move into first place in the West.

Nick Akins (pictured) of Riverside CC hit a game-winning pinch-hit two-run homer to lead the Knights to victory. Akins eighth-inning blast put Corvallis up 3-1. The Knights took their first lead in the top of the seventh on Brett Casey's RBI double.

Bellingham tied it in the bottom half of the inning on a two-out throwing error by Knights' second baseman Drew Garcia of UC Riverside.

The Knights would add three more runs in the ninth to take game one of its three-game series vs. Bellingham 6-1.

Corvallis broke its 21-inning scoreless streak with a run in the 7th.

Knights pitching held the Bells at bay on another wet day in Bellingham. Starter Eric Massingham of Cal Poly SLO tossed six scoreless innings and struckout 8. Mike Cusick of Western Oregon improved his record to 4-2 as the frosh right-hander from Salem earned the win in relief. Cusick tossed 3 solid innings allowing only one unearned run.

Shortstop Josh Hogan of Mt. Hood CC collected 3 bunt singles to go 3 for 4.

Centerfielder Braden Wells of Oregon State went 2 for 5. Casey of OSU walked three times and doubled in five plate appearances.

With Sunday's win, Corvallis improves to 28-13 overall and 20-11 in the WCCBL. The Knights are now in first place in the West, a half-game ahead of Kitsap and 2 1/2 games ahead of third place Bend.

Blake Keitzman of OSU is scheduled to start game two of the Knights series with Bellingham. Monday's game time is 7 pm.
