Soto's hot streak continues in 8-6 loss to Rogues.

Jackson Soto (pictured) doubled, singled twice and had two RBIs for Corvallis but Medford held on for an 8-6 win on Wednesday night in the series finale.

The Knights (20-12 all, 18-12 WCL) dropped into a first-place tie with Bend in the Southern Division of the West Coast League. The Elks pulled even by routing Klamath Falls 11-2 in Bend on Wednesday to sweep that series.

A freshman-to-be at Oregon State who graduated from West Albany High School last month, Soto's RBI double in the first tied the game 1-1. He added an RBI single in the fifth, by which time the Knights trailed 7-3.

Soto has at least one hit in nine of his last 10 games, hitting .389 (14-36) in that span to raise his average from .188 on June 29 to .274. He also has 12 RBIs in that period and is now fourth on the club with 16.

Corvallis drew within 8-6 with three runs in the eighth and had the bases loaded with one out. However, Soto hit a one-hop rocket that shortstop Yuto Kata turned into a 6u, 6-3 double play to end the threat.

The Knights brought the tying run to the plate with one out in the ninth but couldn't complete the rally.

Catcher Logan Ice, a future teammate of Soto's at OSU, singled twice and scored. Grant Melker had two RBIs, Scott Quinlan singled twice and Alec Smith doubled for the Knights.

The Rogues (15-12) roughed up Corvallis starter Justin Calomeni for seven runs and nine hits in 4.2 innings. Victor Garcia and Tanner Lubach had three RBIs each as the Rogues won their first game at Goss Stadium after losing their previous eight over the last two seasons.

The Knights open a three-game homestand with South Division rival Klamath Falls at 6:40 p.m. Thursday. The starting pitcher for Corvallis is TBA; the Gems will go with Fresno Pacific sophomore right-hander Tanner Irwin (2-1, 4.80).

Wednesdays crowd of 950 upped the 2014 attendance to 24,772 in 20 openings. Thats 86 more than in 2013, when the Knights drew a franchise-record 43,557 fans, through a corresponding number of home dates.
