South Edges North 7-5 Before Record Crowd.

Corvallis relievers Devon Barker and Brandon Choate closed out the South's 7-5 victory on Tuesday at the WCL All-Star Game.

Five Knights participated. Catcher Dane Lund was 0-for-3 with a run; third baseman Cody Lenahan was 1-for-4 with a run; center fielder Blake Drake was 0-for-1, Barker struck out two in a scoreless eighth inning, and Choate fanned one in the ninth.

North pitcher Cody Poteet of the Walla Walla Sweets, a sophomore-to-be at UCLA, was voted the game's top prospect by MLB scouts. Cowlitz outfielder Kyle Knigge of the South went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs to earn MVP honors.

An All-Star Game and single-game record crowd of 4,210 watched the game at Royal Athletic Park in Victoria, British Columbia. The old records were 2,517 for the 2011 All-Star Game in Corvallis in 2011, and 4,156 for a 2011 regular-season game in Klamath Falls.

Corvallis outfielder Joe Duffin homered twice in the pregame Home Run Derby but did not advance to the semifinals. Cody Hough of Klamath Falls edged Kevin Davidson of Medford to win the event; Turner Gill of Bend and Andre Real of Wenatchee also advanced to the semifinals.

The Knights resume WCL action at 6:40 p.m. Wednesday in the opener of a three-game series with Medford at Goss Stadium. Righty Chris Bishop (1-2, 2.05) is their scheduled starter.

Corvallis (25-15 all, 21-15 WCL) and Medford (20-19 WCL) are the hottest two teams in the league; the Knights were 7-3 and the Rogues 8-2 in their last 10 games heading into the all-star break.
