Corvallis wins home opener in 13 innings vs. Spokane before an opening night crowd of 793.

John Wallace of Oregon State (pictured) went 3 for 6 in his Knights' debut and delivered the game-winning RBI single in the 13th.

"It was a lot of fun being back here in the stadium in front of the Corvallis fans," Wallace said. "My new experience ended good and today was a fun day. Today was a great experience."

After giving up two early runs, the Knights rebounded to tie the game in the sixth.

Southpaw frosh Liam Baron of Linn-Benton CC relieved starter Jon Berger of San Diego State in the fifth inning and kept the Hawks at bay. The Aussie native retired the first nine batters he faced and tossed 5 2/3 innings of scoreless ball while allowing only one hit and walking none and striking out 6.

Ben Rue of Concordia replaced Baron in the top of the 11th. Rue whitewashed Spokane over three innings to earn the win.

"It was a heck of a game and well pitched by both teams," Knights' head coach Brooke Knight said. "Liam is tough, he found a rhythm and got in a zone. Then Benny Rue comes in and gets it done, that is what you need."

The Knights were shutout until the sixth inning, when centerfielder Adam Melker, who walked, scored from first on a double to right-center by catcher Alex Burg of Washington State. After advancing to third on a single by Dean Green of Oklahoma State, Burg scored easily on a sacrifice fly by Logan Lotti.

The two runs in the bottom of the sixth were it until the thirteenth. Despite a bases loaded threat in the 12th the Knights were unable to push a run across the plate until the next frame when Lotti, a junior-to be at OSU, struck again.

After the first two batters were retired in the thirteenth, Lotti drilled the fourth pitch he saw deep into centerfield for a double. Lotti's hit setup Wallace's theatrics. John delivered the walk-off single, a ground ball to center, scoring Lotti on the second pitch he saw from Spokane's Matt Renner.

The opening night victory extends the Knights win streak to 5 and improves the club's League mark to 4-0.

Corvallis relievers pitched 8 2/3 innings of scoreless ball. Baron and Rue also got haircuts before the game compliments of Charlie the Barber of 7stones.

NOTES: Dean Green of Oklahoma State was named WCCBL Player of the Week for June 12-15. Green went 7 for 12 with a triple and 5 RBI as the Knights swept division rival Kitsap on the road.
