Nylen powers Knights' sweep.

Corvallis center fielder Matt Nylen (pictured) singled in the winning run in the 12th inning and the Knights swept the season series over the Falcons with a 4-3 victory.

David Armendariz led off the 12th with a single and was sacrificed to second. After an intentional walk, Nylen bounced a single past the shortstop into left field on a 1-2 pitch, and Armendariz slid home with the deciding run.

"It's one of the greatest feelings in sports," said Nylen, who was 3-for-5 with a double, two singles, an RBI and a run scored. "I was sitting slider, I fought off (reliever Brandon Marris's) fastballs, and I got the slider.

"I rolled it over into the six-hole, and got the job done."

The Knights (24-13, 22-13 WCL) retained their 1.5-game lead over Bend atop the West Division of the West Coast League. They finished 6-0 vs. Kelowna in 2011 and have won seven in a row in the series over the past two summers.

Corvallis went 5-1 on its homestand and has won 8 of 9 since being swept by Bend on July 3-5 to surge ahead of the Elks and Cowlitz in the West Division standings.

Armendariz singled twice and had an RBI, Corey Moore doubled, singled and scored, Sean Myrom had two hits and Kramer Scott had two RBIs for the Knights.

Relievers Scott Schultz, Ben Wetzler, Mitch Patito, Mark Trentacosta and Chris Mendoza blanked the Falcons (10-26) over the final seven innings after they nicked Schultz for a run in the fifth.

Trentacosta pitched out of a bases-loaded, one-out jam in the 10th and a two-on, no-out predicament in the 11th. Mendoza pitched a perfect 12th and earned his first win.

Kelowna scored single runs in the first and fourth off starter Jace Fry but the Knights pulled even in the fourth. Myrom singled, Nylen doubled and Scott drove them both in with a single up the middle.

The Falcons went back ahead in the top of the fifth but the Knights responded again to knot the game at 3-3. Moore doubled into the right-field corner, Jimmy Allen sacrificed and Armendariz drove him in with a single to left field.

The Knights drew 628 fans on the final day of a rare wet July weekend in Corvallis. It raised their season attendance to 23,418 for 19 home dates.

Corvallis opens a three-game series at Bellingham on Monday; right-hander Kyle Hart (3-0, 1.82) of Redlands University is the projected starter. Righty Max Beatty (4-1, 2.78) is Tuesday's tentative starter and righty Chase Johnson (1-1, 2.95) gets the ball in Wednesday's finale.

All three games start at 7 p.m. at Joe Martin Field. The Knights' next home game is Friday, when Cowlitz and the ZOOperstars! visit Goss Stadium at 6:40 p.m. Lefty Dylan Stuart (2-1, 0.95) will start for Corvallis.
