Knights win nightcap in 10, sweep Bells

David Andriese (pictured) drove in the go-ahead run in the third and added another RBI in a 5-2 win over Bellingham in the opener of Fridays doubleheader.

And third baseman Jimmy Allen's one-out single in the 10th drove in Alex Foulon with the winning run as the Knights prevailed 3-2 to sweep the West Coast League doubleheader before a season-high crowd of 1,452 on Little League Night at Goss Stadium.

The Knights (6-5, 5-5 WCL) banged out seven hits in the opener, eight in the nightcap and received standout pitching throughout. Reliever Kyle Hart won the opener; reliever Eric Young followed three shutout innings by predecessor Mark Trentacosta with a scoreless 10th to get the decision in the nightcap.

Bellingham (4-8) has now lost 8 of 9 after a 3-0 start.

In the opener, leadoff batter Connor Hofmann augmented Andriese's offense with two hits, a run and a stolen base.

Hart went three innings in relief of starter Adam Duke and picked up his first win. Hart allowed one run on three hits, with four strikeouts.

Closer Mitch Patito, the Knights leader in saves in 2010 with eight, struck out the side in the seventh for his first save in his initial appearance of the year.

Bellingham scored in the first for a 1-0 lead, but the Knights drew even in the second on a double by Sean Myrom and Kramer Scotts RBI single. Andriese drove in Corey Davis with the go-ahead run in the third.

The Knights scored three times in the fifth to wrap it up. Corey Moore, Davis and Andriese each drove in runs.

Bellingham again led 1-0 in the second game when Andriese walked with two outs in the fourth inning. Myron followed with his second homer in two games, a shot well over the 365-foot mark in left-center.

Bellingham tied it 2-2 in the sixth on an RBI double by Pat Gallagher off reliever Jimmie Sherfy. Each team subsequently had baserunners, but no one threatened seriously until the 10th.

In that inning, Foulon slammed a one-out double into the left-field corner. Then Allen, who was 0-for-7 on the night at that point, lined a single into left-center and Foulon scored easily.

The teams complete the whirlwind series at 12:35 p.m. today. Righty Max Beatty (1-0, 1-0, 1.98) is the projected starter for the Knights; Bellinghams starter is undetermined.

Its Dads Day at Goss Stadium; all fathers will be admitted for $2 when accompanied by their children.
