Wetzler, Fry, Bloomquist on POTY watch list

April 25, 2014

Happy Friday, everyone.

Big baseball series in Corvallis this weekend, as Oregon visits Oregon State in the Civil War. Games are set for 7 p.m. today, 7:30 p.m. on Saturday and 1 p.m. on Sunday.

There will be plenty of former and future Knights on the field. Alums Ben Wetzler (2011) and Jace Fry (2011) get the start on Friday and Sunday for OSU. The bullpen will be staffed by Scott Schultz (2011), Brandon Jackson (2012) and Kevin Flemer (2013). Catchers Logan Ice (2014) and Nate Esposito (2012) and infielders Dan James (2014) and Gabe Clark (2013) are also at the ready for the offense.

The Ducks feature pitchers Steven Nogosek (2013-14) and Jordan Spencer (2014). Outfielder Connor Hofmann (2011-12) left the team earlier this year following a dispute about playing time (or a lack thereof).

So, see you at the ballpark! Dress warmly!

We will also see you in the ballpark in just 40 days, at our June 4 season opener at Goss Stadium against the independent Portland Sea Dogs on Science, Engineering & Arts Day, presented by PEAK Internet. The Sea Dogs are a team of former college players from the Portland metropolitan area and former Oregon State star Kevin Gunderson, who played for the old Aloha Knights in 2004, is their projected starting pitcher.

It should be a great day, so get your tickets now. You can read about all our ticket offerings, and our 2014 promotional schedule, on our website.

Here is some more Knights news, and a few items from elsewhere in the West Coast League.

It is now just 41 more days until our June 4 season opener at Goss Stadium against the independent Portland Sea Dogs on Science, Engineering & Arts Day, presented by PEAK Internet. Knights picked to win South Division

April 16, 2014

Happy Wednesday, everyone.

Halfway through the week, and we are down to 49 more days (seven weeks) until our June 4 season opener at Goss Stadium against the independent Portland Sea Dogs on Science, Engineering & Arts Day, presented by PEAK Internet.

The Sea Dogs are a team of former college players from the Portland metropolitan area and former Oregon State star Kevin Gunderson, who played for the old Aloha Knights in 2004, is their projected starting pitcher. Should be a great day.

Here is some more Knights news, and a few items from elsewhere in the West Coast League.

---------------------------------------------

Reporter Jacob Garcia of the Best Coast Baseball website picks the Knights to repeat as South Division champions. Here's what he wrote in previewing our team:

"The Knights are stacked with talent. Again. Their history of being a powerhouse will most likely carry on this season. Will they run away with the division? That's up to the Elks and the Rogues to decide. Their pitching is beyond impressive and I'd go as far to stay that they have the best overall pitching staff in the league. The Knights aren't exactly strangers to 30 win seasons and look for that trend to continue."

For the complete story, please click here.

Winning the South sounds like a plan. Jacob picked Walla Walla to win the East Division; we will pass along his North Division preview when it appears.

-------------------------------------------

It's now official, since he's been added to the website: Former Knights broadcaster Kevin Burke (2012) will call all the action for the Traverse City (Mich.) Beach Bums of the independent Frontier League this season. They open May 16. Click here to read more about another successful alum. There is no mention of his summer with the Knights, but we all remember he did an outstanding job.
